PonyTown Roleplay is a different sort of pony sim. Our goal is to create a fun and positive RP environment where people can become part of the world that the creators of MLP: FIM have given to us all, and to create our own stories in that world. Part of maintaining that image and fantasy is keeping our sim authentic to the source material. We ask people to fill out applications for the rarer creatures to make sure the characters will fit our fantasy and goals for the RP.

The Unique Character application itself goes into more detail on our goals and what we’re looking for from people looking to play some of the less frequently seen species, so if you’re curious, please have a read. Below you can find the list of which races do and don’t need an application.

Common - No application required: The following races are common ponies seen across Equestria and don't need an application.

  • Earth Pony
  • Pegasus
  • Unicorn

Uncommon - No application required: While usually not ponies, the following races are frequently seen in Equestria for trade, curiosity, or various other reasons, and thus, they also do not require an application.

  • Griffons
  • Hippogriffs
  • Zebra
  • Diamond Dogs
  • Donkeys
  • Crystal Ponies
  • Young Dragon (Spike or Smolder size and ability)

Rare - Application required: These races are sparse in population, tend not to mingle with ponies, or are otherwise not generally seen in day to day life in Equestria. Players wishing to play a character that is one of the following races will need to fill out an application.

  • Kirin
  • Deer
  • Buffalo
  • Bat Ponies
  • Adult Dragon (Garble, Ember, and older)

Special Circumstances Only: Some types of characters will require a discussion with staff for the purpose of the character, and will almost certainly not be approved as a PC for general play. These characters include:

  • A character that is a hybrid of species, such as a dragon-pony.
  • Robots, cyborgs, clockwork automatons, and other constructs that are considerably out of place.
  • Changelings
  • Breezies
  • Alicorns, deities or supernatural creatures.
  • Anything else from canon not otherwise listed elsewhere in this page, including but not limited to:
  • Non-canon (fan-created) species
